We are delighted that the Educate North Awards 2023 have recognised the exceptional work of our Family Team at Morpeth Road Academy have been highly commended for all they do to support community engagement in the Blyth area.

Hollie Rankin and the wider pastoral Team at Morpeth Road Academy are dedicated to supporting the community in a number of ways which go well beyond that which would be expected from a school, providing a comprehensive and much needed service to children and their families.

Nothing is too big or too small to ensure all children and families receive the best and most appropriate support, their dedication is widely acclaimed by the community. This has included setting up a counselling service for staff, pupils and parents; a food and clothing bank accessible to all families; provision of communication for parents; home visits, food delivery, Christmas presents, Easter eggs, clothes, uniform, sanitary products and home essentials. They have ensured that families are supported in accessing all services that can help their personal circumstances e.g. poverty, housing, mental health. One member of the team is CAB trained, and a Citizen’s Advice Bureau advisor is based in school one day per week in order to support parents via a pre-booked appointment system.

They have worked hard to develop and improve the attendance policy and protocols to link directly with SEND, LAC and hard to reach families, refugees and asylum seekers to ensure that children attend school to access education. They work closely with the Local Authority and other agencies to ensure that the families are extremely well supported.

From everyone at WISE Academies a huge congratulations to the team at Morpeth Road Academy for their success in this prestigious award. The recognition is thoroughly well deserved.

The team change the lives of parents and children showing respect, care and dedication to all. The lives of our children, staff and parents would be inferior without the Family team.
